The installation Soft is the contribution of the 2nd year MArch to the 2023 CSM Graduate Showcase, developed in collaboration with technicians from MA Fashion, Print and Textiles and the architecture practice what if: projects.

Soft celebrates the students’ work-in-progress, and explores how architectural production and experimentation intersects with climate and social justice. The diverse body of work in Soft includes objects, publications and prints, and embodies a collective student voice defined by care, non-fixedness and vulnerability. The work does not provide answers, but poses questions, shares processes and presents the students’ passions and motivations.

The installation’s re-uses the course’s ‘keeclamp system’ as a structure, as it does each year in the Showcase, only this time hung with lush, ruffled curtains made from everyday cotton dustsheets, dyed with cabbage and turmeric. Such re-use and work with bio-based materials embody the course’s longstanding approach to making, and commitment to principles of the ‘circular economy’
